Welcome to Much Wenlock Community First Responders

A community first responder is a person who is trained to provide initial medical care and support to people in their community, especially in emergency situations.

They are often the first people to arrive on the scene of an accident or medical emergency and are able to provide life-saving care until more advanced medical help arrives. This can include things like CPR, bleeding control, and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Community first responders often work as volunteers and may be called upon to assist at any time, day or night.

They play an important role in helping to save lives and provide medical assistance to those in need in their community.

We Are Now a Charity

Much Wenlock CFRs have joined with Broseley CFRs to form a joint charity. The new charity is called “Broseley and Much Wenlock Community First Responders” and has the charity number 1204517.
Becoming a charity will open some fundraising doors, make it easier to apply for grants and allow for some cost savings when buying medical supplies. Both groups will continue to run their own fundraising, and money raised in one community WILL NOT be spent outside that community.

Hopefully this move will make the future of both groups a little more secure. There will be no other changes to the way we operate, as we have always responded to calls in our neighbour communities.

Latest News

A new public automatic defibrillator has now been installed in Much Wenlock. The AED is located at the Presthope Grange Residential Park on the Stretton Road.

Park resident Brian Norris was concerned that at around two and a half miles in the town of Much Wenlock the nearest public AED was too far away from the park. Ideally the AED needs to be at the scene of a cardiac arrest within 10 minutes.

After doing some research and contacting Pete from the “Much Wenlock first responders” Pete was able to secure a large discount from “London Hearts” to supply a new AED and external cabinet.

Brian also drummed up support from the Presthope Grange residents via the Just Giving platform which raised over £600 he also contacted (Presthope Estates The park owners) (Omar Park Homes the main supplier of quality park homes) and (Avon Estates who are the marketing agents for the park) They each contributed a third each of the monies to purchase the AED & Cabinet.

The monies that were donated by the residents will go towards installation costs, Accessories, CPR/De-fib training, as well as replacement parts and other ongoing costs. Several residents are to take part in the training, and this will be carried out by the Much Wenlock first responders over several planned onsite sessions.

The AED has been registered on “The Circuit” the national defibrillator network, that provides the NHS ambulance services with vital information about defibrillators across the UK so that in those crucial moments after a cardiac arrest, they can be accessed quickly to help save lives.

A rota has been set up so that the AED is maintained and weekly inspected by residents. Pictures of the residents and Pete from the first responders standing around the new Defibrillator location at Presthope Grange.
